Questions--I need answers!

It's been so long since I've worn makeup, and since I will be entering the workforce sometime in the near future, assuming someone wants to hire me, I need makeup.

What's your favorite brand of makeup?

This of course brings up the question....when did you start wearing makeup?  I see girls at Em's school that have started wearing makeup, but I was thinking I'd let her in high school, which is still a year away.  She hasn't complained about it.....yet!

I took the girls shopping for Mother's Day, because we needed to get them some camp clothes.  Keep in mind that my daughter is about 5'7" tall, thin, and does not look 13.  Why do they want her to dress like a hoochie mama? Anyone know of any good clothing stores that will have cool clothes for her age, but not break the bank?

Next question is back to potty training.  Junior is potty trained.  Reflect on that for a moment.  My almost 5 year old son is FINALLY potty trained.  He is wearing underwear.  He is dry.  Let's be honest, this is a miracle in itself.  But....did you potty train your sons at night by letting them go in underwear?  I'm thinking if the kid wants to wear pullups to bed at night, he will eventually train himself, and I should push it.  Heck, I'm just glad that I am not changing diapers during the day anymore!

(Gunner, please do not read this)  Retirement presents.  I have something in mind, but I was wondering if anyone had some great ideas for a present to give him for retirement?  (I apparently get a yellow rose at his retirement ceremony....5 deployments and I get a rose?  I should get a 24 karat rose!)

Which brings me to coin boxes.  I have looked at several online, but was wondering if anyone had a recommendation of someone that they ordered from, and the quality was impeccable?  You know how they love their coins!

Last question--I have my half marathon on Sunday, and I need some good songs for my playlist.  I know I need to download some black eyed peas, but what are some other good up-tempo songs that need to go on the list too?

Thanks guys!

Makeup- I don't care what anyone says, I don't believe you need to pay an arm and a leg for makeup. The best mascara I have ever bought is cover girl, the pink/green tube. Almost all my make up is cover girl. Good quality, lasts all day and doesn't break the bank.

Teen clothing- I work at a middle school and it scares the snot out of me when I see the girls come in half dressed with more make up than I wear. I didn't wear anythink but lip gloss in middle school and in high school it was limited to mascara and lipgloss. For the clothing, check Old Navy. They still seem to keep kids covered and it's not omg expensive. And right now they have a serious sale going on with shorts!

I agree with R in that you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for cosmetics. However, I've found that by going to a cosmetic counter and having them help you pick out the correct color for foundation and concealer is very helpful. You can then purchase the more expensive stuff once to help you pick out the cheaper stuff.

I teach 7th grade science. I spend way, way, way too much time enforcing dress code policies (no bra straps showing, no cleavage, no boxers showing, etc.). I second Old Navy for keeping tweens appropriate. I don't remember which department store, but one of the major chains used to have a Juniors line called Modern and Modest that was still really cute and not expensive. You might try Googling it.

It depends on what's important to you as far as makeup goes. For me, I won't wear anything that's been tested on animals, period. That's why I wear Mary Kay exclusively. None of their products are tested on animals, and contrary to what some people might think, it is VERY affordable and lasts three times as long as drugstore makeup. My tube of concealer is going on 5+ months! I also sell it on the side if you're interested. Whatever you decide to do, I encourage you to research :)

P's mom sells Mary Kay, and I started wearing it last year. I love it. I used to spend a lot more on smashbox and other expensive stuff, and less on cover girl, but the MK matches my complexion and my skin type nicely.

I think I started wearing makeup at 15, but my mom was extremely strict and anti dating, anti makeup, and anti shaving my legs. It's hard to be the only girl in 7th grade who doesn't shave her legs, so my sister showed me how.

No suggestions on tween clothing or on retirement presents.

Running songs.. I really like random songs to run to: Like a G6, Pink's So What, Out of my way -Seether, Bad Girlfriend- Theory of a Deadman, Pump it- Black Eyed Peas, What Was I thinkin-Dierks Bently, I like it- Enrique Iglesias... yeah it's very random. :)

Seriously....Me. said...

Coin Boxes...I found that if you can find a custom made one it's better. My Hubby has outgrown his...and we need something bigger, but not bigger, but will hold more. Does that make sense?
I bought his first from the PX specialty shop on post and it was Ok.
Retirement present...the big thing here is those Civil War military prints. There are some modern ones by Jody Harmon that are pretty popular here..

I started wearing a little makeup here and there when I was about Em's age. My mom started me out small with powder foundation, then mascara, then some light colored eyeshadow, etc. I started using Mary Kay when I was about 16. I've used cover girl and maybelline which works but I've always gone back to Mary Kay. It's really not that expensive and it's much better quality than what you can get at walmart.

I still think MK is great but I, of course, don't sell it anymore. I do have a tester tube still of the tinted moisturisor that is in your color. It's yours if you want it (free, of course). You can always buy makeup from Walgreens. They let you return it if you aren't happy with the colors. It's a good way to try something out without wasting money.

I was allowed to wear makeup at a very young age (mid elem school), but I didn't have much interest in it until starting high school. If she's a year away, I think it's perfectly alright to let her try some out. I doubt she'll be very interested in it. You can always start by allowing lipgloss and mascera this year and more next year.

Congrats on JR. I know that was way painful. I say, whatever works at night is great. After how things went with the daytime training, I wouldn't want to rock the boat!

Tell them you want a 14 karat silver rose. You get a freakin' dozen for mothers day!

I love running to 'Girl Talk.' It's got a lot of profanity and rap but the beat is fantastic and some of the songs really crack me up. And it's free.

I only have the answers to your makeup questions but hopefully they help!!

I don't think I started wearing makeup till high school, maybe I wore lipgloss or something when I was in middle school but that's about it.

I've never really worn all that much makeup, I go all week without wearing it unless I have somewhere I have to go at night or a dinner or something to go to. Even still, I only wear a little bit of powder, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, some blush and that's about it.

I agree with a lot of the other ladies as well, you don't have to pay a lot of money for cosmetics. I've paid not very much and I've paid quite a bit for cosmetics and I realized that neither of them really work better than the other. I love anything that Sephora makes, their house brand. I have a huge eye shadow/lip gloss/blush compact thing that I got for $25 from there and I use it ALL the time. I do have quite a bit of an expensive mascara from there, it's $24 a bottle, the brand is Shisedo, I just love it and it's probably the only thing cosmetic wise that I pay a lot for. Other wise, I don't pay top dollar, general store makeup works just the same for me as department store makeup ;)

I was allowed to wear lip gloss and a little eye shadow in middle school. The summer before high school, my mom took me to a Clinique counter at the mall and they did my make up and showed me how to do it and how to choose colors and so on. It is still one of my favorite memories of my mother.

www . shopjustice . com has cute clothes that my nieces love. It used to be limitedtoo. The clothes may be a little high, but the sales are ok. Also, aeropostale . com and forever21 . com and ae . com all have youth/girls sections with trend(ish) clothes.

Hope that helps!

I can only help with the makeup question.

I started wearing makeup in junior high. That said, my mom took me to a department store makeup counter and had someone teach me how to do my make up so that I didn't look like a whore. :)

As far as make up brands... I really like Clinique and used it for years. But I have recently switched to Bare Minerals. Both are available on base. But I LOVE the Bare minerals stuff. It's light weight, it doesn't cause my skin to break out (which I have a big problem with) and it doesn't fade, crease or come off over the course of my day. I can go out for the evening (or Ball for instance) and come home looking just as good as I did when I left. And their line is huge! Plus, they have lovely, affordable starter kits that come with all the basics. :)

Hope that helps!

I've worn either Cover Girl or Clinique. To be honest, CG works amazingly and I have never had any breakouts from it. Lasts all day and serves it's purpose. It doesn't cost a lot of money to look presentable when it comes to make up.

Clothing ~ I am appalled by the articles of clothing...or lack of them... I see parents allowing their children to wear now days! Best place to shop sometimes is Aeropostale and Old Navy. Especially in their back clearance areas. As we all know kids clothing doesn't last long. My husband got upset when he noticed all the kids clothing, but when I showed him that I had more than four big bags full and only spent $50 he was good with it. Their online prices are just as great and you can get free shipping after spending a certain amount!

Potty Training ~ I found pull ups to be a waste of money. Instead, we put a plastic mattress pad under our children's sheets. Too easy to strip the sheets and wash them then clean the plastic sheet under them. Plus, it saves a TON of money! My middle child has pretty bad ADHD and wet the bed until she was almost seven, until they finally got her meds on the right dose. Underwear for all three of my kids made them feel more grown, as pull ups did not. Personally, I think pull ups confuse a child. Why do they need to get up at night when they have the can find comfort in knowing they have protection on them?

Playlist ~ Jordan Sparks has a couple of up tempo songs, as does Lady Gaga. According to You by Oriathi, Christina Aguilera, Toby Keith, The Veronicas, Rhianna... My list could go on and on. I have so many songs on my work out playlist!

Hope this helps some!

Makeup: I started wearing it when I was 13-ish, but minimal stuff. Clear mascara and the cornsilk powder you get at the drug store. Before I started highschool, my mom took me to the Lancome counter to get some powder, blush, mascara and made me learn how not to look like a tramp.

Right now, I use mostly Sephora-brand stuff. It's high quality and won't break the bank.

Teen clothes: I would check out Old Navy for shorts--they have a nice variety of inseams and aren't too pricey.

Coin boxes: Hubby's favorite one is a custom-made one we got while we were at Hood. Is there someone in your area (perhaps at a trophy/frame shop) that makes them?

I really love bare minerals. My skin is so dang sensitive and I hate the thick goopy feeling of liquid foundation. The starter kits (you can get them at Sephora) are pretty inexpensive and usually have two shades so you can kind of see where you fall in the color spectrum. I didn't wear make up until my first year of law school, but I love this stuff!!

For make-up I have always been a faithful user of Cover girl. It is not expensive at all and often there are coupons for a $1 off and some stores even have buy one get one. The make up lasts all day and has great coverage.

Clothing for girls scares me. I have a 4yr old and dread her getting older because of the clothing options out there. yikes.

I started wearing make-up in college!! My parents were strict (military and religious) so my sister and I weren't allowed to wear nail polish (besides clear or very light pink) and we were not allowed to wear make-up. Except in high school I wore just a little bit of eye liner.

My favorite brands:
Revlon eye liner
Cover Girl liquid foundation & bronzer
Maybelline mascara

Wow your daughter is taller than me! I am 24 and 5'3"!

As far as music for marathons/working out, if you aren't familiar with Pandora, I think that is a great option! You can select a song or an artist and it will continue to play that type of music for hours. You can skip a track if it happens to pick something you don't like. That's what I do. If you can't get Pandora on your phone, go with Rihanna, Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Pussy Cat Dolls, Pink, Flo-rida, Beyonce, Sean Kingston, and Lady Gaga.

It all depends on your budget. I personally prefer M.A.C. makeup, but it can get expensive. It all depends on what you're buying and how much makeup you want. I also like the makeup from Victoria's Secret, but again, it depends on your budget.
Neither one of the brands I use test their products on animals, just to let you know. I definitely wouldn't use it if it was tested on animals.

Lindsey.
