I was over at The Displaced Dutchican and she posted about a guy who left his wife to go to the airport to pick up his mother. Several people expressed what they thought of this guy....and it wasn't nice, lol.
I confess. Gunner did the same thing. I was overdue with our first child, my water broke and we went to the hospital. I was admitted. My mom was arriving into Frankfurt that morning and my husband left me at the hospital to go get her. At the time I wasn't happy, but he didn't want to leave her there since we didn't know how long it would take. We were about 45 minutes from the hospital and it was all autobahn, so he took off and I stayed there...in pain.
He returned with my mom and later that night our daughter Em was born. Looking back on it now I laugh and laugh. I wasn't amused at the time, but I was glad that my mom was there and found her to be a lot more helpful than Gunner was--of course I was still a little pissed at him at the time, but it was short lived.
Anyway he has redeemed himself.
I did just ask Gunner again and he said if we were in Germany that he would make the same choice, but if we were in the States she would have to find her own way.
Here's my mom's account that she wrote a few weeks ago when she opened a memory from the box referring to the incident.

From what I recall, you were more than happy to have your Mom present for the delivery. Isn't Em the one she helped to be born with a little extra "push"?
LOL!! Ok, Ok, I'm going to have to take back the tool part for Gunner! I'm glad your story had a happier ending, the poor girl that I know had the baby before her dh got back. I'll have to share your story with her, I think it will make her feel better to know that you guys are still happily married :)
Poor Gunner. If there is one important thing he has learned since he married you, it is diplomacy!
Growing up, my next-door neighbor dropped his wife off at the hospital in a truck that had a load of soybeans (they were farmers)... he went to deliver the beans, then returned to the hospital later... after the baby was born.
With my first, I didn't even let Stuntman out of the room (22 hr labor) to go buy food (we had food packed, so what if he wanted something better).
I thought "if I can't eat, either should he".
#2 and #3, that wasn't an issue, the labor was much quicker:)
I should have gone for ice cream.
I dunno Gunner. She was awfully fond of Italian food that pregnancy (at least when I visited). Maybe you could have brought back lasagna and pizza?
Okay--Germany, understandable. Glad he wouldn't have done it in the states, though!
DH was at the Baghdad airport on his way home for leave for the last one--so I'm not letting him out of my sight for a second with this one!!!
