Another day in the life of Me

I went to the dermatologist.

Picked up Abbie's prescription. The doctor had been on vacation and so I was sending her to school on no medication. Mental note--this is not a good idea.

Came home, took a much needed nap. Went to class. Had presentation.

I went to pick up Junior and walked in on him chomping down on some kid. Great. Even better--that was his third incident for the day. He felt the need to chomp down on two other kids as well.

Then I go get Abs, and got a notice that she was going to be suspended. I about lost it. Apparently she gave a boy a peck on the cheek. Then later someone said she spit on the chair while in the bus, a few drops and none of it touched the kid.

Okay, she shouldn't kiss a boy and she shouldn't spit. But be suspended for THAT? Give me a break. I wrote on the comment section. Probably not a good idea when I am upset. Then I talked to one of the teachers, and told her that it was unacceptable. At no time did Abs put anyone in danger and this was the FIRST time that she did ANYTHING, and I wasn't in the position to be able to pick her up on a whim because they thought they had a kissing bandit on their hands. I asked her if Abs hurt anyone? No. Did she tie the boy down? No. Did she at any time put anyone's life in danger? No. I asked a bunch of other questions, and then told her that I would talk to Abs, but I wasn't about to be threatened and have more stress added to my life because of them. She agreed that the threat at the bottom of the page was excessive and said she would talk to the director. I would have done it myself if I hadn't been on the verge of tears.

Not like I haven't spent the last two days crying anyway. Geez.

First presentation I started crying before I got up there. Luckily this was the class where I like the professor. I got it together and my presentation was okay (of course I am my own worst critic!), my friends said it was good. Must have been the water cycle song. LOL My Aunt ME has been a lifesaver through all of this. She is brilliant!

I don't know what my deal is lately. Doesn't help that it's been a week since I have heard from Gunner. I know he's busy, but I got used to being in pretty constant communication with him, and I just needed to talk to him this week. I know we made it to the one year left mark, but that just made it feel like it's still a lifetime till he comes home.

Still no job. And don't even get me started right now on one of the teachers I have this term.

On the bright side, I got a box in the mail today from someone that adopted Chris! It was a total surprise and made my day! Inside were four wrapped packages--one for me, two for the kids, and one for all of us. Can't wait to unwrap them and see! She mentioned how Abraham Lincoln said to take care of the families left behind, and so that she did! Did I mention that it made my day? Thanks so much Marilyn! Your kindness means the world to me.

UPDATE: Gunner called 7 times. Of course all 7 times I couldn't understand a lick of what he said, and the last time where I actually heard him say hello, we got disconnected. He didn't try again. Can't say that I blame him, but maybe tomorrow he will get through. And hopefully his son won't bite. And his daughter won't kiss any boys.

P.S. I sent Abs to her room when we got home and no one could watch tv today while I made dinner. (Mean mom, I know, I know) Abs showed up to dinner with a pile of makeup on her face and mascara all over her eyes. There went the other half of the bottle....

Oh dear, I'm so sorry you had such a yucky day.

From what I gather you are in school for teaching. What are you aiming towards teaching? I'm an air force wife AND a 7th grade science teacher, though I am taking a break to get my master's at the moment. If you EVER need any help with lesson plans or the like, please, please send me an email. It must be tough going to school and take care of kids. I can't even imagine.

PS - I read your blog regularly, but this is my first time commenting. :-)

Biting.....been there, done that. Kissing.....been there, done that.

First biting... There is a great book called "Teeth are not for biting". Lance still likes to read it.

Kissing...... at least it wasn't on the lips. We have already had to deal with that w/ a 3 yr old.

Presentations....I always did my best by knowing the subject and not over preping. One note card w/ single word reminders of my key points.

Sorry that Gunner's calls were unsuccessful :(

< hugs >

I'm not sure if this will help, but I want to take a second to tell you that I think you're one of the most amazing women I've ever encountered. Were I in your shoes, I'm not sure I could function, yet you, in spite of how it may seem to you at any given moment, are doing a remarkable job. And I can't thank you, and the other wives like you, enough for your sacrifices.

As for the kissing - schools have gone over-board with some of their rules. A kiss on the cheek between kids isn't all that uncommon. I mean, it's better than hitting!

OMG, what a day!!! But just think, it's over now...and you got to at least hear Gunner's voice...even if it was for just a moment. I'd like to hear Seth's voice right now...it has been 2 weeks without a call or email or IM or anything...just updates from Katie. I know, moms are not on the top of the contact list once the sons marry, but it doesn't mean I don't still need to hear from him sometimes. I've decided to send him some writing stuff so he can at least write...even if it's just two words, it'll be something... :)

Sweetheart, I know your Dad would do the same if positions were reversed. We are just thankful that we can be of assistance when you need it. Now, what's next on the agenda?

Isn't Junior following in his big sister's footsteps with the biting? I seem to recall you had to deal with this at least once before.

With the presentations, you always do better in front of groups than you think you do. Trust me- I've seen you speak!

When I was in first grade (5 decades ago :) a few of the girls tackled some boys at recess and kissed them.

We had three first grade classrooms, each with a woman teacher.

The girls had to line up and kiss each teacher on the cheek. It was the perfect punishment at that time. Believe me none of us were tempted to kiss anyone after that!
