And then there were 4....and The Ridiculous Shoe Problem

Goodbyes are never easy, especially after 18 days of togetherness.

Gunner left bright and early this morning as I headed off to work and took the kids to daycare before school.

Some pictures....

This afternoon when we got home, I got a notice saying that Abs was out of dress code. She goes to a public school, but they require uniforms. Last year I bought her a pair of shoes and she wore them for a few weeks. Summer came and she went back to her sandals and the tennis shoes sat. Once school was about to begin, I had her try them on and they still fit, so she was happy wearing them. A plain pair of nikes.

Imagine my surprise when I got a notice stating that "Your child was out of compliance in the following manner: Shoes--solid color." So I look on the back of the paper to see what the proper procedures are for tennis shoes. It says "Any solid color sneaker (accent colors on tennis shoes are acceptable) or velcro, loafer style, or laced shoe. No neon colors, lights, noisemakers, or rollers." It goes on to say "Shoelaces must match shoes in color or must be white. No flip-flops, sandals, high heels, clogs, or platform shoes. Athletic shoes are required on PE days. Must be worn with socks or tights....."

So I just don't get it. Abbie's shoes are white (although they could stand to have a washing) and the swooshes are a different color which would fall under the accent colors. So basically if she goes to school next week with these shoes on she will be sent home until she complies with the dress code. I think she might be switching to my school which doesn't require uniforms if it comes to that. I'm not buying a new pair of shoes when she might really need a pair in a few months. She also wore these shoes at the end of last year, and there were no complaints. Geez....

Am I losing my mind or is this ridiculous?

Thursday will make 39 trash days left. Slowly but surely.....

It sounds as if you are on solid grounds with the shoes, but there is no telling how they interpreted it. If Em. gets to your school, just consider how ofter will you have to address some of her antics directly.

Oh, those pictures made me sad. ((HUGS)) for all of you.

And that is ridiculous about the shoes. They need to at least be consistent about it, if the shoes were fine last year, they should be fine this year. ARGH.

I don't understand the shoe thing . . . I say fight it! I mean it even mentions accent colors and isn't that what the purple/pink is? Maybe they are giving Abs a hard time already because they 'know her' . . . sad! It isn't like they are screaming purple/pink. By the way it is almost impossible to find all white leather girl shoes . . .

I won't even comment on the other part of the post:( Hope school is going okay for you:)

I am dreading George leaving. I know that it means that we are that much closer to his return for good, but I still don't want to say goodbye.

HMMM maybe there is somone new that's monitoring the dress code? The shoes look fine to me. My daughter went to a school where she had to wear uniforms and those types of shoes were fine!
