How in the world?

I look back when I blogged last deployment, and I had a full time job, worked out like a wild woman, three kids, and was going to graduate school.  How did I have time to blog?  I never slept.  I could function on 5 or less hours of sleep, and now I am two years older, and that just isn't happening.

I could easily be happy with 8 hours of sleep a night, and that isn't happening either.

Abs is killing me.  She's up all night, and for some reason after all this time, it dawned on me.....she doesn't know how to go back to sleep.  All that self soothing as babies is useless when they are older, and she for the life of her can't figure it out.

This should have been totally obvious to me, but it hasn't been, and I blame it on the lack of sleep.

We had a long talk about it, and I explained some things to her, and talked about relaxation techniques, and then did what I always do.

I went to Amazon.

I found a few very highly rated relaxation cd's, that tell stories, and get the child to calm down.

I'm hoping it works.

I let her listen to the clips on amazon, and she said she preferred her current cd.

Can you guess what it is?  It's a CD made from an old record, that I absolutely loved--the story of Jean Lafeyette.  I memorized it as a kid, and Abs has memorized it now.

She thinks that is relaxing.  Somehow I don't think the songs and story behind their battle of the British is relaxing, so she said she'd try things my way.

I hope it works.

I have pictures to post from all our fun this past weekend, but while at a festival, we met a Holistic Clinical Nutritionist.  After I gave her the 3rd degree on the phone today about credentials, I am taking Abs for an appointment this Friday.

Maybe this will give us some guidance.....some help....some sleep?

I don't know if it would help, but Abs imagination and creativity reminds me a lot of my own. And to put myself to sleep I imagine I am in a hammock, listening to leaves blowing in the wind. And then I conk out.

Or I pretend I'm a statue. I had ADHD growing up and that helped a lot because pretending you're a statue means you have to be very still.

I don't know if those ideas would help in anyway (sorry if it's overshare) but thought I'd put it out there. I hope the nutritionist helps.

I'm not working now and wonder how I did it all before. I was a single mother while pregnant with DD and graduated from grad school 3 weeks after I had her. I worked full time through all of it too. I was no big deal at the time, but I don't know how I did it now!

Wow! I hope the sleep thing works for you. It's amazing that no one else had picked up on it before now too.

Good luck, I look forward to hearing how it works.

I just have to tell you that you are my hero. Abs is lucky to have you as a mom, I am sure you don't always feel like it so I thought you should be reminded.

Thanks for sharing this link, but unfortunately it seems to be down... Does anybody have a mirror or another source? Please answer to my post if you do!

I would appreciate if a staff member here at armybloggerwife.blogspot.com could post it.

Thanks,
Peter

Wow neat! This is a really great site! I am wondering if anyone else has come across something
exactly the same in the past? Keep up the great work!

Interesting. Cait never had the sleep problem, but my friend's son did. I taught him in 4th grade and he would tell me how he would stay up all night watching tv because he couldn't sleep. His mom said that she began giving him melatonin and that helped some. I hope you find help with the nutritionist. I pray you get some sleep.

PS - I used to blog and scrapbook like crazy. I am not sure what happened but I just can't do it now.

I sure hope it works, for you both! I remember those days when I could make due on three or four hours of sleep and then work a 12-hour shift and be perfectly fine. At 51, they are long gone, let me tell you.

I have faith that you will find the answer and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Glad to hear you are grilling the nutritionist about her credentials. That industry is wildly unregulated in who can call themselves nutritionists. Just know in general, if someone is an RD (registered Dietitian) they are legit.

I like the statue comment. I'd see if she could implement that with the technique I always use which is to mentally go through parts of the body and make them feel really heavy--like stone from a statue. Good luck with the cd's.
