Disappointed in Army Wives

I follow Army Wives, the tv show, on Facebook.  Today they had this post up:

In honor of Memorial Day weekend, we wanted to share photos from Season 5's fallen soldier, Jeremy Sherwood. Remember Jeremy with pictures from the emotional episode here:

They then linked to some pictures of him.

I didn't even read the other responses, and I had to jump and say my piece.

There are so many fallen heroes that deserve respect on Memorial Day, not a fictional character.  Could they not come up with some other way to link to Memorial Day?

I then went back and read the 80+ comments, and saw that I was not the only one who was ticked off.

Do you think people are overreacting, or do you think Army Wives really messed up?  Obviously there social media person did a crappy job with this one!  Maybe they should hire me!

Whoa now. I'm with you -- that was in poor taste, "Army Wives." I hope they apologize for their lapse in judgment.

Their link up for Memorial Day is for a fictional soldier? I haven't watched since the 1st season, but definitely disappointing.

I'm dumbfounded. I don't even know what to think. Whoever came up with that idea needs to be fired. On Presidents' Day, should we remember all the presidents who have been in various movies? Thumbs down Lifetime!

I understand what they're trying to accomplish, but I definitely think they went about it the wrong way. I do think it was in poor taste, and while the thought behind it was good, they should have thought about the outcome a little more before they went through with it.

I felt the same way. Why not honor actual soldiers who have died in combat??

Yeah, it was definitely inappropriate. They've interviewed that actor and he made some jokes about "how cool" the uniform is and if it didn't take so long to get ready he would "wear one every day." Now those are silly remarks and not offensive, but then when the show goes out of their way to "honor" him on Memorial Day as a "symbolic" soldier, it's pretty tasteless.

thats a little ridiculous. I agree there are so many real heroes they could have used realy heroes to remember.Mel has a valid point those people just dont understand...those jokes are ridiculous

That was a bad move on their part. They could have done a Memorial Day episode or something and included him, but only in the show.

This, though? Not right.

I have not been a fan since the episode showing the Generals wife bringing muffins to some enlisted wife's house... in what SAM HILL post does that happen on??? Reading your post did not surprise me, just made me a little disgusted with Army Wives. So, no.. you are not over reacting.

I do like your blog, very nice!!!!

I watch the show and I had no idea--I'm not usually on their website. I do think it would have been better, if they were going to use him at all, for death of Jeremy as a jumping point to remind people of all the ACTUAL service members who have died. So if I had seen it, I'd have had the same reaction.
