Be Prepared

So after stuffing the girls in the linen closet last night (actually Trying, Abs probably would hang out in cabinets with your kids!), we finally got some sleep. This morning I went in to give Abs her medicine and get her moving. I couldn't figure out what she was doing in her bed because she looked enormous. This is what I found:

The girl had stuffed every single animal and fuffy she owned down her pajamas. She wanted to make sure in case of a tornado all her "important stuff" was safe. Em had even given her one of those flashing light toys that you can wear around your neck--I knew Em had it in her to be nicer to her sister!. The slippers were my dad's. Abs has grown attached to them, although she rarely wears them. She wore them last night so that my dad would keep her safe. I'm sure he will Abs, I am sure he will.....

We never worry about what we wear, fashion looses out to comfort all of the time.

No wonder she and L get along so well... great minds think alike. Does she like stinky socks, too?

Have to say your weather has been HORRIBLE. We have had a little rain, but not enough . . . (San Antone).

Do the shelves come out? Or could you replace the bottom two with shelves that come out so the girls could stand?

I only have a couple of tornado tips. You may or may not hear the train sound. If it is violently raining and hailing and then just stops dead - that might signal a tornado is almost on you. (In my experience the power went out too.)

If you are in a car and have time to drive at a right angle to the tornado, do so. DO NOT get in or stay in a car during a tornado. If you are outside, look for an underpass, culvert, or depression in the ground in that order.

We pay a small amount to get alerts sent on our cell phone. They are detailed text messages and of course beep. So if you do not hear the siren, that might alert you . . .

This is through our local TV station that has free computer weather alerts, but charges for the phone. It is actually quite good. They usually say, "storm approaching" and give the time and severity. http://www.weather.com or http://www.weatherbug.com

Good tips, except for the underpass.
"This is a modern-day myth. Scientists and meteorologists and the emergency management people have become very frustrated with the increasing number of motorists who are doing this routinely. The truth is, any time you deliberately put yourself above ground level during a tornado, you are putting yourself in harm's way."
Check out 'Tornado Myths" http://www.tornadoproject.com/

Please take the underpass OFF your "safe place" list.
