Marriage Ref Needed Here

Have you seen the show The Marriage Ref?  It's hilarious, and I think the time has come that Gunner and I go on it.

I believe that you should use the microwave to its fullest capacity.

If you need to heat up leftovers, then into the microwave they go.

Boil water?  Microwave.

Heat up something out of a can?  Microwave.

Cook?  Microwave.

My dear, sweet, wonderful, husband of 15 years does not feel the same way as me.

A simple can of peas takes ten times longer and requires more effort.  In a duel, I could have a can of peas opened and served within a minute and a half.  It would take my dear sweet husband time to open the can, find a saucepan, pour it in, get the stove hot, stand over the pan and stir the peas.

My method doesn't even require a spoon till the very end.

I was informed yesterday that I don't really "cook" because I use the microwave.

Seriously????  I say that they don't put microwave directions on there for the heck of it, and he thinks that it should only be used to heat up leftovers.  I can cook eggs, bacon, steam food, you name it, all in the microwave!

So.....whose right?  I can cook on the stove, if need be, but with three kids, let's get real, time is a commodity I don't have a lot of!

I agree with you, well, most of it..... I still think bacon comes out better in the broiler, lol. But canned veggies and other stuff? It's quick, convenient and when you've got hungry kids, time is of the essence.

Yes, SOME things may be better if cooked on the stove or in the oven but I totally agree with using the microwave as a COOKING tool.

OK...first off, that show is hilarious!

Second, I am fellow non-cook. Microwave cooking isn't "cooking" in the fullest sense of the word. I don't cook. I don't want to take the time to learn.

I make most things in the microwave also, but I do think that you sacrifice some taste and some nutrients in doing so. I also think you have to be careful to cook things in the microwave in non-plastic containers. Plastic when heated gives off bad chemicals which get put in the food.

On the other hand, who the hell wants to take 3 hours to cook a 30 minute meal. You've got kids and as long as their fed and they like it, why not use the darn microwave.

If he wants to cook every meal on the stove, put your feet up and let him. :)

Well I don't really know who is right, but what I do know is that my Teenybop has an interest lately in cooking and I don't want to stifle it ... I'd love to see some of your microwave "recipes" so that she can learn some basic cooking skills and I don't have her worry about her burning the building down! Besides, it could come in handy when I don't have time for stove cooking too ...

Maybe we should talk about "stir and frost" cake…..

First let me say that you are awesome.

But cooking in the mircowave isn't cooking. It's just heating. While when you don't have time, of course it can be used to cook eggs and such. However oven cooking is practically an art. It's creative and creation. I just can't see that same enjoyment with a microwave.

I'm with you. Cooking in the microwave is great, I do it all the time. Especially when the hubs isn't home. We do a lot of baked potatoes in the microwave, If I can get a baked potatoe in 5 mintues why in the world would I wait 1 hour?????? I can salt the outside and make it taste the same.

It's about convience and practicality. Living in Texas you don't use the stove/oven as much it heats up the whole house! We didn't use it much in GA either.

Well, my mom had cancer as a young adult that she got from radiation treatment, so we never had a microwave growing up and I still have some of that fear in me, so I have to side with Gunner.
